Running
I have always enjoyed running, taking part in small local 5k and 10k races. But it wasn't until I started graduate school that I became serious about running. My first semester at CSU I completed my first half marathon, after that I was hooked. Since then I have met other runners in the math department, and once a semester we choose a different race, in a different state, and then train for, travel to, and complete the races together. We have done several 15k races, a half marathon, and last October in Wichita Kansas, I completed my first full marathon (26.2 miles), in a time good enough to qualify for the Boston Marathon. I will be participating in the Boston Marathon in 2014.

Cycling
As an undergraduate at Fort Lewis College, I became involved in the Fort Lewis College Cycling Club, where I raced road and cyclocross. Cycling is a club sport where we traveled to races hosted by various schools across Colorado, as well to New Mexico and Wyoming. I was also fortunate enough to get to race at the Cylocross Nationals in Kansas City, KS in December of 2007. Racing at the collegiate level was a terrific experience. I have not competed in any bike races since leaving Fort Lewis, but I continue to ride recreationally. I also use my bike as my primary mode of transportation, commuting to school nearly every day (as long as the roads are dry, I'm on my bike).

Mountain Activities: Skiing, Hiking, Snowshoeing, ...
Growing up in Colorado has allowed me many years of enjoyment in the Rocky Mountains. For the most part I have enjoyed the Rockies as a skier, skiing nearly every season for the past 20 years. During the summer of 2011 I completed my first 14-er (a mountain exceeding 14,000 feet in elevation), Mount Sherman in the Mosquito Mountain Range. The following summer I reached the summit of Longs Peak, one of the most prominent peaks on Colorado's Front Range.
