Math 161: Calculus for Physical Scientists II
Spring 2011, Spring 2012 (lab instructor), Summer 2013
This course is currently run as a three day a week lecture, plus one day a week run as a lab session. Lecture sessions are run as large sections, and labs are split into smaller sessions. The lab includes activities such as Maple Lab assignments, problem sessions, and exam reviews. I have run both lecture sessions as well as lab sections.

Unabridged Student Comments:
Summer 2013:
"Excellent instructor"
"Patient, knowledgeable, and good at explaining hard concepts. The material for this course felt all over the place, but she did a great job of managing that and pacing the class."
"Great teacher! Hilary was great - knew the subject well and knew how to effectively communicate the material A+ :)"
"I really appreciate how fast you gave feedback with tests and quizzes."
"M161 was a good course. I felt a little rushed to learn new ideas (complex numbers, polar coords) towards the end but I'm sure that's because it's a summer course. H. Smallwood is a pretty good teacher and the class was structured very well. So much better than calc I."
"I have heard there is a participation grade in this course, when the syllabus simply says grade on attendance. I do not think that is fair and the syllabus should be changed."
"Hands down the best instructor at CSU. She's always available to help. She grades faster than any instructor (which really helps me stress less!) She clearly knows the subject."
"Hilary was very helpful and knowledgeable about the topics covered. She is by far the best calculus professor I have had at CSU (or anywhere)."
"More assigned homework would have been helpful, particularly because of the speed of a summer course."
"You always thoroughly explained concepts and overall really made sure we understood the lessons."
"You are a really awesome teacher :)"
"This was awesome. Learned a lot."
"Awesome teacher."
